Upper Peninsula

Upper Peninsula

The Upper Peninsula contains 29% of the land area of Michigan but just 3% of its total population. That means peace, serenity and tranquil beauty awaits you around every bend. The mighty Lake Superior is surrounding the peninsula and is the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area, and the third largest freshwater lake by volume. The southern shore of Lake Superior between Grand Marais, Michigan, and Whitefish Point is known as the "Graveyard of the Great Lakes" and more ships have been lost around the Whitefish Point area than any other part of Lake Superior. Sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, inland lakes, deep forest, and wild shoreline are all part of the amazing Upper Peninsula. There is so much land untouched to explore, but also some amazing towns such as the great college town of Marquette, Munising, home of the fabulous Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Paradise.
